Rolling Road Installation Case Study
Area Covered:
14m x 1.2m
The Challenge
As part of the Transpennine Route Upgrade, the local council and gas distribution network required a solution to protect a traffic island that would be subjected to repeated crossings by a heavy goods vehicle (HGV) over an extended period.
The primary concern, however, wasn’t just surface wear—it was what lay beneath. A high-pressure gas pipeline ran directly under the traffic island. Any damage to the surface could have compromised the gas main, posing serious safety, operational, and financial risks.
The Solution
UIS was called upon to provide a bespoke solution—quickly. Within a short timeframe, a configuration of Midi Rolling Road boards was developed, along with custom ramping systems to accommodate the weight and repeated impact of HGV traffic.
Thanks to the modular, non-invasive design of Rolling Road, the traffic island was fully protected without any disruption to the underlying pipeline or road structure. The solution delivered ongoing surface protection, safety assurance, and peace of mind for the council, contractors, and utility providers involved.
The scheme was delivered on time and to full satisfaction, and once again highlighted the adaptability and dependability of the Rolling Road system in high-stakes infrastructure projects.
