Rolling Road Installation Case Study
Area Covered:
130m x 3.6m (Road)
12m x 12m (Work platform)
The Challenge
Following a period of sustained heavy rainfall, Anglian Water identified a leak and a developing sinkhole at the Ashland Lakes balancing reservoir in Milton Keynes. The solution involved inserting a fibreglass liner using a UV-curing technique—essentially creating a new internal pipe inside the existing one.
However, the surrounding terrain posed a serious logistical and safety concern. The ground where equipment and teams needed to operate was boggy, uneven, and hazardous, making access difficult and standard ground protection methods ineffective.
The Solution
UIS delivered a reliable and versatile solution using Rolling Road ground protection boards. A combination of Midi and Maxi boards was deployed, with the Midi boards covering approximately 85% of the site. These provided safe, stable access routes and working zones across soft, unpredictable ground.
In higher-risk areas where heavy plant and equipment were to be used, Maxi boards were installed to form a reinforced, heavy-duty platform. This tailored approach ensured the safety of the workforce, maintained operational efficiency, and protected the delicate landscape from further disruption.
The Rolling Road system once again proved its ability to adapt to complex and weather-sensitive environments, allowing Anglian Water to proceed with their critical repair works without delay.
